I went with my brother-in-law to Latrobe, PA to experience the first year of a new era in Pittsburgh Steeler football. Mike Tomlin, the new head coach, seems to have it all together and his handling of training camp is show just how the times of changed. During the practice we observed today the Steelers spent significant time on special teams, and the up tempo pace kept the intensity and focus of the players at a high level.
So as promised, here are my predictions for the 2007 season. Obviously, I will pick the Steelers to win the AFC North division with a 12-4 record. The rest of the division will shake out as follows, Ravens, Bungels, and the poor Brownies. I believe the Steelers split the season series with the Ravens, however, they'll sweep the Bungels and the Browns.
Pittsburgh has nothing put positive momentum, and Coach Tomlin can't seemingly make a wrong decision right now. Obviously, he hasn't even been a head coach for one game in the NFL, so I won't crown him yet. BUT, I'm already head over heels for his approach to the game.
I'll reserve judgment for how far the team will get into the playoffs, but it seems to me that they have all the necessary ingredients for a solid playoff team.
