Well, we're home from the beach today. It has been 3 years since my family and I have had the opportunity to go on vacation anywhere. So my in-law's decided it was time and rented out a condo at Myrtle Beach, SC for all of us to relax for the week!
Relaxation is key to success in the kingdom of God. Often we overlook number 4 on God's top ten list, and forget that we all should work hard for 6 days, but on the 7th day set it apart as a day to be refreshed by God. I've often caught myself not taking 1 day a week to set back, exhale, and breathe in the refreshing wind of God. After a few years of 80 hour work weeks, my young 20 something year old body began to let me know that it was going well beyond its limitations. My blood pressure was soaring, migraine headaches were frequent, and life at large was simply not enjoyable!
I said all of that to say this, the world does not depend solely upon me. And pastors, your church should not depend solely upon you for everything! If it does, make the necessary changes that broadens the work load and responsibilities to other staff members and volunteers. If you don't you won't be there for long, and then nothing will get done because you won't be there to do it and you never trained and released anybody else!
So work hard for 6 days a week, and then all God to re-energize you on that 7th day. Once you do, you'll see that you'll get more accomplished 6 days with one day of Sabbath than working like a maniac for 7 days.
(Oh, did I mention that if you don't take a Sabbath day a week that you are committing sin, and are in the same company as any liar, adulterer, murderer, and the like!)
